Albums/EPs
4/5 = Wireframe - Paper Skies
- A sensational album debut here from Paper Skies, who I know to have a bouncy color bass sound. Lots of dubstep and melodic dubstep too. In this 8 track album, you really hear the heart of Paper Skies and his sound and story, I loved the narration in the opening track "Wireframe" and "Interlude". It gave me CHILLS when listening to the album in order for the first time. The whole question of "What does it mean to be an artist?" just speaks so much to how he crafts the entirety of this album and also just how much he's hyped this one up.
- And then from the teaser before this album dropped, I knew the song to lookout for was "I Let Go" with Danyka Nadeau, a tremendous vocalist who's collabed with tons of artists. And wow this feature was AMAZING. The drops and stuttering are insane.
- As a whole I just love this album and all the soundscapes we get from Paper Skies. He is setting himself a high standard and I love that, just great melodies and progressions here.
Rating = 8.7/10
Favorite Tracks = "I Let Go", "Interlude", "Liquidist", "Freefalling"
4/10 = Thousand Miles - MIKESH!FT
- Here we go with a 4 track EP of which we've had 2 singles leading into it. MIKESH!FT a rushdown artist who has some crafty beats and rough color sound design. Small artist here.
- I will say some of these vocals are unpolished and the mixing is even more unpolished, seen in title track "Thousand Miles" and stints in "Lose My Mind". I also really hate the drum pattern in the drop of "Lose My Mind". It's really tough because I actually really love the melodic lines especially in the second verse, it has so much potential. So we can only hope for more growth as MIKESH!FT continues on the come up.
Rating = 6/10
Favorite Tracks = "Waiting", "
4/12 = Mechanomorphic - Mr. Bill
- A very unique album that I like to characterize as riddim bass house or complextro with stretchy soundscapes and sophisticated movements. A very respectable 18 tracks in this record that explores so many synthwaves and midsections and its just some very sophisticated stuff. There's some skrillex-like movements, then some Teminite "electropi" movements, then some drumbreaks, and its just a very nice unique album here with sounds and melodies and experimentation that I'm a big fan of. The dj scratches in "Bones" IS SO SICK and more artists should do that because WOW.
- I thought that this album could benefit with some colorbass, which we saw a bit of in "Absence." 90% ofthis album is based off of bass cuts so I think it could add some nice contrast. I also loved all the tracks that had vocals in them, gapping out his drops with vocals just makes everything more linear and digestable. It just makes me wish more of these tracks had vocals.
- Favorite track by far is "Wybe" I DID NOT expect to hear Spanish on this album and for these sections to hit SO HARD, man the progression is just so good. Wow what an amazing track and progression.
Rating = 7.5/10
Favorite Tracks = "Rawthentic", "Bring it On", "Stutter", "Rewind", "Wybe"
- Here we have a well anticipated 11th studio album from Taylor Swift. A folk pop and synth pop album produced by a lot of Jack Antanoff and some Aaron Dessner. You can view my first listening reaction here.
- So we got 16 tracks at 9 PM and then another 15 tracks in a double drop at 11 PM. Let's focus on the main course, TTPD. There's way too much midnights folk pop going on and way too little upbeat energetic feel good music. After all it is a black and white emotional breakup album, but even knowing that I will still complain. I would put this album over Midnights and Folklore/Evermore, so it's not a bad album, just a bit disappointing that the real last upbeat studio album we've had is back in 2019 in Lover. That side of Taylor Swift is what I love the most out of her discography, and it's sad to know that with this album release we've gotta wait a while to see more of it.
- With that out of the way though, I CAN DO IT WITH A BROKEN HEART is A SENSATIONAL track that deserves to be a single with a music video, even if its just era tour visuals. The first time I listened to it I was bursting, this track was incredible as it just erupts into this synth heaven melody that is just way too addicting. This track instantly landed in my top 2 Taylor Swift songs of all time, though with that recency bias out of the way I would say its top 5 now.
- Other great tracks include "Fortnight", "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys", "Guilty as Sin?", "But Daddy I Love Him"
- Now moving onto Anthology, the second album of 15 tracks, it leans into the folk side even more. Literally all the tracks are some piano somber stuff, very lyrical stuff, reminded me of some Olivia Rodrigo tracks in her deluxe. I'm sure theres a side of her fans that love all these tracks but man it's just all clutter to me. There is ONE song that is just randomly SUPER GOOD and that's "So High School", WOW that track reminds me of Fearless but in this new lens and era that she's in. Love the track, the lyrics, and the melody.
- So my conclusions from these two albums is that in her next studio album she gotta work with like Max Martin again if thats happening because MAN with Jack Antanoff it's all just sad stuff and production. Even the good songs off this album just have this overall downtempo indie sentiment to it. We've seen some potential in "Anti-Hero" and "Karma" and stuff off Midnights but I just think it's safer if she just please goes into like upbeat pop again please. We are due for no more of this folk pop or bedroom pop or like laid back pop or wahtever you call this man. COME ON.
Rating = TBD
Favorite Tracks = "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart", "Fortnight", "Guilty as Sin?", "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys", "So High School", "But Daddy I Love Him"
Conclusions
Here we go with another month of eventful EDM. There was also a ton of rap beef going on this month which was hilarious I feel like all these rappers out here are just trolling lmao. We can also see the pop scene having the Taylor Swift effect. Justin Timberlake, Kacie Musgraves, Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande all released albums last month just cuz they knew this month would be Taylor's month. You seriously can't deny Taylor's influence on the music industry.
Anyway, I would say this didn't beat out March, but it's definitely 2nd place. The chainsmokers track was really fire, prob the best track of the month maybe? Paper Skies album might be the best EDM album released this year (maybe simulation DLC is better), and we got NOTD and bizarrap releases, which are always fire. Porter released a new track and along with that a tour announcemenet and that comes with a big announcement from me:
I GOT PORTER ROBINSON TICKETS. LETSGOOOOOOO THIS IS GONNA BE MY FIRST EDM CONCERT. There were so many like raves I wanted to go to like the Dabin one and stuff, theres an INZO one here in Santa Cruz like literally today. But like idk raves and rave culture prob isnt worth it. They legit just dj it and play IDs, it's not a concert with live performances. Porter is gonna be a live performance and I anticipate him playing so many fire tracks from his upcoming album but also his last albums. Nurture tour would've been sensational but I am glad I'm going to go to this Porter concert. This is gonna be amazing I already know.
Ok anyway here's the top 10 tracks of 2024 as of end of March:
- Teminite - Yours [March]

And here's the updated one. I highlighted the April entrances in purple:

Preview
So far off the top of my head we've got a new Chainsmokers album coming out on May 10th which will prob be mostly mid. Then skybreak's been teasing stuff on instagram and skybreak never misses. Dua Lipa is also releasing Radical Optimism on May 3rd which I'm intrigued to listen to. There's actually a lot of stuff I'm anticipating to come out so yea we are HITTING THE STRIDE this year!!
