The crazy band concert story

I got a story to tell, and now that it has been a couple of months, I won't get in trouble haha.

Anyway, so there was a band concert at Amador Valley High School where the top group in HPMS would perform there along with all the bands in Amador.

Usually, I take my instrument home from school twice a week to practice at home and the other days I don't practice. It's pretty heavy and stuff.

Well, that day.....I FORGOT TO BRING MY INSTRUMENT HOME

So I had no French Horn, WHICH WAS A MAJOR SCREW-UP, and since I was carpooling with Josh, I video called him and he didn't answer. This was urgent information so I sent a "Something really bad happened" text and went to ring his doorbell. When he answered, he was like.

"Oh shoot I forgot my instrument too."

Well, honestly I was kinda happy which feels wrong but like it's WAY better when you get in trouble and you're not alone. We talked about if the band room was possibly going to be open and we concluded a hard no.

I had a plan.

  1. Tell Josh's dad that the band teacher took our instruments and brought them to Amador
  2. Somehow figure out a plan.

Well, when it was time to go, we both had faces of dread, as forgetting your instrument to a concert is kinda like getting 0 on the concert grade. Concert grades takes up a lot, and one time my friend missed a concert without an excuse and ended up with a B.

When we got to Amador, we immediately told Mihir and Aryan, and they didn't really know what to do.

Josh was thinking about telling the truth, but I had a plan. I told him that if this doesn't work, we just tell him the truth.

PLAN:

  1. Go to band room
  2. POSSIBLY SNEAK IN AND GRAB AN INSTRUMENT
  3. MOST LIKELY ASK A HIGH SCHOOLER IF THEY  CAN BE KIND
  4. take instruments
  5. go back
  6. after the concert is over we ask to go to the bathroom, then run and put our instruments somehow away.

The chances that this plan would work was slim, but it was worth a shot considering the punishment.

I know this is sneaky and stuff, but like we were desperate. A B in band could possibly end an honor roll.

Ok, so we both asked to go to the bathroom, and me and Josh were like RUN

We ran to the band room and saw this kid who was in our band a year ago. He was really nice, and we explained our situation.

He was all like "Yikes. I'll see what I can do."

He then got a trumpet for Josh, then I was like I NEED A FRENCH HORN.

If Josh somehow got a trumpet and I didn't, MAN I WOULD GET IN TROUBLE ALONE.

He asked this bass clarinet guy who also played french horn, and he WAS SO NICE. He was like "you can play if you want" and told me to put it back in a case he showed me after our performance was over.

I agreed, then ran back with Josh.

We were honestly just so happy that we got instruments.

The thing was...

MINE WAS A SILVER DOUBLE HORN.

MY ACTUAL INSTRUMENT WAS A GOLD SINGLE HORN.

My teacher knew my instrument pretty well, so like if I got caught now, I would be more than screwed. Honestly the lighting really made you not be able to tell.

Josh and I tried to stay as far away from our teacher as possible, and we were so stressed.

When it finally became performance time, I told Adi and he was just really confused.

Anyway, performance over. Now type to go to the seats where we would watch.

I fingered and fake played.

When I got to my seat, me and Josh immediately asked to go to the bathroom, scooting past people with OUR INSTRUMENTS. We were so scared someone would be like "why do you have your instruments with you to the bathroom?"

Anyway, we ran in concert shoes to go put our instruments away, and we were scared that someone was gonna be in the band room. Luckily no one was there. We put out instruments away then sprinted back. The door was going to be closed in a minute because the high school performance just started.

Now the stress wasn't gone. Everyone was holding their instruments in the crowd, and if our teacher saw us without instruments, it would be very suspicious. Our excuse would be "I gave it to my parents"

Obviously that is still suspicious, but hopefully we just didn't get caught.

During the high school performance, in one song there was a very intense and suspenseful loud climax and then it all just burst into silence with emotion, and as soon as the silence came, we heard the apple ringtone.

Everyone started cracking up xD.

Imagine a beat drop with a stutter syncopation and during a pause you just hear the apple ringtone. The timing was perfect.

It turns out that some people were prank calling taco bell in the audience, and they were near us, SO THAT GOT US STRESSED. The people were cracking up and were really loud, and if the teacher went to go yell at them and saw Josh and I with no instruments...

Our teacher never stood up as an audience except applauding, and when it was all over, IT WAS ALL OVER. I went to go thank that guy who let me borrow his instrument and told him that without him, I would literally have a B in band. He's a senior, so I won't be able to see him around in high school.

I love it when people are nice.

Throughout the entire plan, there were multiple instances where something could strike the bell, and it was a very stressful and relieving experience. I am partially thankful of this as I WILL NEVER FORGET TO BRING MY INSTRUMENT HOME AGAIN AFTER THIS.
