Berkeley + Davis Cubing Comps!

Image
My last cubing competition was Oct 14 2023, So 2 years later, this past weekend i went on a little trip to 2 cubing competitions in 2 days. Both of these competitions had the 3x3 blindfolded event. I signed up for these comps in late September, not having any real successes under my belt and not knowing any of the 3x3 BLD algs. I knew some theory because I briefly tried learning it before giving up. So I basically gave myself a month to drill down 3x3 blindfolded. It's literally such a quintessential storybook of just setting myself an ambitious goal and then pushing myself to work for it. Friday - Berkeley At around noon I drive over to Berkeley before picking up my friend Ashwin who took the Amtrack from Davis to Berkeley. Then we met up with Allen at this LanZhou noodle place by his apartment which was pretty good. I like the city LanZhou cuz its kinda close to inner mongolia and its an interesting city ive seen a couple of videos its kinda like a desert city but also super urb...

WCA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025!!!!!

Image
So I can't believe I'm writing these words BUT I AM GOING TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025!! There's so much to talk about, I've been cubing since like 6th grade and I went to my first competition in 2015 and so I've been following pretty much every world championship along with national championship and watching YouTubers vlogs there and just being so jealous at how insane the words venues are and how many events go on and how just the entire community gets together. Childhood me would be so happy and proud knowing that I made it, its literally a childhood dream come true.  Now I'm not competing because I only knew I'd be in Seattle this summer in February, and the registration opened way before that and the 2,000 competitor limit hits like the same day it opens. So I settled with the spectator badge and its legit perfectly fine. It's honestly crazy how its in Seattle the exact year that I'm interning here like I remember when I realized randomly one da...

https://live.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions/3586/competitors/380859  https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions/BayAreaSpeedcubin53Berkeley2023/results/all?event=skewb Hi guys, so last weekend(8 days ago) i went to a rubiks cube competition. I forgot to write about it. At least I remembered now, its not that late lol. 2x2 I did like very well in 2x2. I legit didn't practice 2x2 leading up to the competition because I forgot to bring one to college lmao, but I gotta give credit to the scrambles man. I can sit back and be like "I was always averaging sub-6 at home!!" but like realistically speaking I forgot like 2 PBL algs and if I got them in any of the scrambles I would've been screwed. So a crazily consistent average apart from the 12 second solve. That 12 second solve wasn't even an alg I forgot, I literally just had some random wave of nervousness and couldn't think and my muscle memory wasn't working so I messed up. But like literally al ...

CubingUSA Western Champs 2023

Image
So last weekend was cubingUSA western champs 2023, its one ofthe like 8 regional competitions that happens around the country.  https://cubingusa.org/regional https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/competitions/CubingUSAWesternChampionship2023#general-info and this year's westerns was in NorCal, Berkeley!! Very ideal. Last year's was in UCLA in socal and I couldn't go.  There's not much else to talk about. I scouted out the skewb roster and it was pretty stacked, with stanley chapel, jack stewart, cameron miller being my main problem. My gameplan was basically to kinda go all out and try to get some good averages in final round. But yea theres TONS OF famous people. Max Park, Max Siauw, Sameer Aggarwall, Tommy Cherry, Stanley Chapel, Graham Siggins, Elijah Brown. Rowe Hessler too but he didn't end up coming. That is SUPER EXCITING. This was my first ever big comp. And I know I said there's not mnuch else to talk about lmao but I also was going to be staffing for...

SACCubing XIV recap!

This past weekend on Saturday I went to Sacramento for my second-ever SAC competition. Last time I went was in March 2022,  https://cavs4tw.blogspot.com/2022/03/sac-cubing-xi-recap-first-place-in-skewb.html . I got my first ever podium and first ever gold medal. First comp after 2.5 years due to covid. So the past competition, here are  my results . I participated in 4 events. Here's how they went. 3x3 My first event of the day was 3x3, it was pretty solid.  I got a new offical average PB. Fairly consistent. But then here was 2nd round.... Okay so first of all... I started things off with a 10.01 SINGLE LIKE WHAT?? IM REALLY HAPPY, BUT HOW IS IT THAT CLOSE TO A SUB-10. It's so like ironic and poetic and it feels so fake to just get a 10.01 like that. I'll take it tho... but like... really??? So I started the average with that BOMB. My previous best official single was 10.66. So then I follow that up with a 14 sec, I was really nervous for absolutely no reason, but I clutc...
