An attempt on a research essay.
I never thought I would every write an essay that's not related to school...
Thanks Dennis xd
Again read the title, this is my first attempt. Very choppy and the topic sentences are not strong enough.
Everyone strives to be happy. Everyone strives to fit in. Everyone strives for plants. The usage of marijuana has been a global epidemic for years. If it is stopped, and people stop smoking, the world could also live a little longer.
Marijuana can and will kill people. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), there are 22.5 million monthly users, with 35.6% of 12th graders using marijuana in 2015. More than 1 in 3 of all 18 year olds are smoking their lives away. Smoking marijuana has become a mainstream trend in recent years, and with numbers still growing, the latest major action taken was legalization of marijuana in Illinois. When Trump decided to not pay attention to major mass shootings, the danger and negativity only increased, showcasing the necessity of immediate action. If something is not done soon, many more deaths of teenagers will tally.
The NIDA also released a survey of 10th graders, with results tallying at 23.9%. Not only is smoking at the age of 16 illegal, it poses a bigger effect compared to developed bodies. Allowing for almost 1 in 4 10th graders smoking in the US is unacceptable, and one of the only blamable factors is the background check and security for attaining the chemicals. A harsher background check for customers along with a harsher consequence from dealing drugs is necessary, as it displays a threat, scaring consumers by a background check. This will lead to a decrease in the amount of drug dealers, allowing 10th graders to wonder why marijuana is such a big deal.
Academic competition, homework capacity, and bullying are all dominant reasons for why 20% of all teens become depressed before reaching adulthood, reported by Discovery Mood & Anxiety Program. Since only 30% are treated, many of the remaining 70% of depressed teenagers are taking drugs, hoping to find an outlet for happiness. In the long run, drugs present a very large negative impact on teenagers, since as you take more drugs, you need more drugs because of addiction. This is why many end up commiting suicide, making suicide the third most common death by kids 10-24.
⅓ of the future will likely make no contributions to the world, as once nicotine begins to spark 18 year olds cannot stop until they’re buried besides the very plants they are addicted to. Using drugs is not only an economic harm but also damages others with second-hand smoke. Although inhaling such substances relieves stress, it affects physical health too, potentially causing lung cancer, heart failure, and dental problems. The effect will always outweigh the purpose, in which it can be obtained in alternate paths such as coloring, interacting with animals, and exercising.
Major strides are taking place currently, with a series of commercials discouraging the use of drugs shown on platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Instagram. People are taking essential action, and one day, if the marijuana epidemic is solved, people will be putting their brilliant minds to use, lives will be saved, and future innovations will help save the world.
