Chime Presents: Colour Bass Vol. 3 | Album review

The Colour Bass Vol.3 came out on 1/28/22. I didn't follow the previous two volumes nor listen to them yet, but this album received tons of hype from au5 and chime and rushdown. I also listened to the trailer and I really liked some of the teasers. AND THEY DELIVERED.

As the album name suggests, all of the songs are centered around https://bassmusic.fandom.com/wiki/Colour_Bass#:~:text=Colour%20Bass%20is%20a%20subgenre,staple%20in%20modern%20bass%20music. Quite literally changed the realm of edm and its limits. I hope to see colorbass take over NCS one day.

Here is my top 5 favorite songs from the album. There are 20 songs in the album so there are definitely gonna be snubs :(

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

  • Chime - Cloud Factory
    • Love the hook and design overall
  • Inutillia - Quartzone, L.M.
    • Amazing melody with a vibrant synth break. Would likely be #6 on this list
  • Higher - Kaval
    • Cool lyrics and melody, very solid song

  • The synth break is unheard of. A swirling whirl of colorbass and droplets that keep you on the edge of your seat. The progression throughout the drops is masterful and I just love all the scaterred effects that surround the main melody and beat.
  • However, the part that makes this song so good is the second verse, which feels like a bridge, but is actually the second verse. It's a short segment of vocal chops yet it's one of my favorite vocal chop solos. The melody is just totally for me.
  • Overall, and outstanding song with an outstanding second verse. If something of this caliber is only #5, then just imagine what the rest is.
  • This entire song is just sucha peaceful, beautiful, and emotional alignment. The vocals may feel "breathy," but it fits the mood of the song. The transitions aren't overdone.
  • The drop is so good omg. THIS DROP IS SENSATIONAL. The contrast and the melodies itself make this track such a treat.
  • The second verse and pretty much the entire song just reminds me of this. An absolute PROGRESSION with amazing stacking and countermelodies. Infowler went all-in on this second verse with the emotions and build-up.
  • The more I listen to this song, to the second verse.....the more I want to move this up to #3 or #2
  • Beautiful songs like this are the hardest to create, and Infowler does a wonderful job at not overdoing any samples in this melodic track.

NUMBER 3 - Similar Outskirts - Hold On

  • Absolutely love Similar Outskirts' take on a Colorbass approach to "codeko crest" or "thefatrat" songs, where it's basically one main melody as the central theme that plays throughout the entire song.
  • Similar Outskirts lays it out as the first notes. A catchy sixteenth note scale up to a beautiful melodic dip. This melody is just so well-integrated in the drop and synth break as it's supported very well.
  • There's not much else to say about this song. It feels like a celebration, and the main melody is embraced so hard. I love these types of songs which is why it gave me the bias to put it at #3.

NUMBER 2 - MrKoolTrix - Jumble

  • A very fun, light, upbeat, and playful tune from MrKoolTrix
  • The drop and melody in the synth break is SO GOOD. It's such a hook...it's so good. I LOVE the melody so mcuh bruhaLURHAWILURHWAIRHW
  • The afterparty of the melody is also very good. A flurry of vocal chops and transitions that are so fitting to the style of this song.
  • After the second drop and break, the song is over. A short tune for the ages!!!!

NUMBER 1 - SirensCeol - Never Leave

  • This was the first song I listened to when the album was released and I chose it on purpose because:
    • I really like SirensCeol
    • The snippet from the teaser WAS AMAZING
  • The entirety of the song was even better. Usually the snippets are better than the actual song.
  • The samples everywhere in this colorbass track is pretty cool. It's top-notch. It's totally SirensCeol style with the chill beat and relaxed tempo
  • The drop in the synth break is just AMAZING. ITS A COLOR BASS BREAKDOWN WITH AN AMAZING EFFECTS, RIPPLES, AND DROPLETS. OH MY GOD
    • When I first listened to this drop I felt like I was blown out of my chair. SirensCeol even whooshed it with a very long transition for us to take-in, as if that drop was the end of a performance, and the whooshes is the resolution and the audience clapping over it. In reality however, it also serves as an excuse to not write a second verse, and pretty much put all attention on the drop.
  • The structure of this song is messy itself. There's lots of beat drops inside of beat drops.
  • Man I will never get over that color-bass break down. It's just so amazing. It makes me forget about everything else that's insane about this song. Unarguably the best song off this album. Absolutely love this track. It's melodic, it's beautiful, and it's pretty much just insane.
