Limited Review on UMinnesota Twin Cities and the cities itself ! 2023

Hi, I went to visit Minnesota twin cities last week. I left on Thursday morning and came back on Saturday afternoon. I didn't write a blog post because i was SLAMMED by reyes and human geo work. Even tho these blog posts dont take that long to write.

Here's all the photos that I took on this trip...It's a lot, I'm actually very proud of my photo taking skills. I'm really good at it, just look at how many i took, and im legit not one of those ppl who take so many photos where its like annoying and stuff, i just take some fire short flicks, trust me, IM A FIRE PHOTO TAKER.

But anyway, let's talk about some cool stuff about this city and college. I've never been to midwest/northern USA besides Seattle if that counts, so this was def very cool.

  • Lots of tall towers and everything, except that's just mostly downtown minneapolis. Outside of that, it's not that prevalent. To compare it to NYC where the tall towers just sprawl EVERYWHERE.
  • Very cold when I went, which was mid-April. Pretty similar to inner mongolia temperatures. Definitely tough to live in, this leads to my next point:
  • A very unique SKYWAY.
    • Imagine a city, with tall buildings in a grid-like township/range pattern, just ur typical city. This could be like sf or any big city.
    • Among all the second floors of these buildings are inconnected tunnels that cross the street above the cars.

    • SO that's what the tunnels look like. They literally connect whole downtown minneapolis in a whole network of tunnels, all based around the second floor of buildings. This is essentially relevant in this city because it's so cold, it's pretty unbearable to walk outside.
    • Lots of these tunnels connect to apartments, malls, they also connect to the US Bank stadium and Target Center, where Timberwolves play.
    • Most of the people walking in the tunnels were like commuters to work tbh, there wasn't much tourism during our time, not many businesses open.
    • It's definitely a VERY unique experience, never seen anything like this. It's really cool.

    • All those pink lines are skyway tunnels.
  • Next up, we gotta talk about that missippi river. It's really cool! It's a river that separates Minneapolis and St. Paul, two great economic cities that are right next to each other, hence, twin cities.
    • I have some photos and vids of in the photos folder, should be obvious which ones they are. Anyway, the current seems really slow far away, but its super fast when you go up-close to it. It's genuinely a pretty nice river, very wide. Pretty cool to experience, that was my first time seeing the long missippi river.
  • UMinn campus itself
    • Lots of tunnels, along with a bridges connecting the two sides of campus in the river. Overall SUPER NICE campus with super nice buildings, definitely really fire campus. There's a ton of students inside the main halls and everything, theres also lots of like hallways underground and tunnels that lead to the other halls, so that's pretty cool. It seems like they have tons of accomodations for the cold weather, it's just that lots of outdorr activities obviously can't hit the same when the weather is so cold.
    • But yeah, the campus honestly blew me away, there's tons of nice food options when you go inside the main cafeteria stuff, and all the buildings were so good, a lot better than like berkeley i would lowkey say, or lots of other campuses.
    • But yeah, we walked around that campus for a while in our like 2 night stay.
  • Mall of America
    • The biggest mall in the Western Hemisphere. Bloomington, Minnesota. Really close to the airport.
    • The main attractions in this mall is the nickelodean universe in the center of the mall, and the SeaLife aquarium below the museum. Outside of that, there were TONS of stuff like lego stores, crayola factories, M&M factories, tons of clothing stores. The mall is gigantic. There's so much stuff to do.
    • When me and my mom went back there on Saturday morning before our flight back home, it was pretty packed with tons of people, lots I'm assuming tourists now that it was the weekend. This mall receives a lot of visitors. Glad it does.
    • There's also just that random assortment of random shops, like barnes and nobles, haircut salons, walgreens, a health office, and random shops that I can't even remember because they were so random.
    • There's not much else I can say about the mall, I have tons of photos in there. It's just so big, tons of stuff there to do in terms of shopping. The nickelodean universe looks so fun as a little kid too. What a nice mall. It's seriously SUPER big. The aquarium was super fire too.
  • I think that's all of the main things we did in Minneapolis. We had a nice time at a trader joes there, haha. Pretty fun city, with roots of Owl City and Lofe in them.
