Central Washington Fall 2026 !
\
So I have a streak of posting every month and I can't finish 2026 Q2 EDM so I will be writing about my cubing competition from last month lmao.
I went to my first competition in almost a year and it was super fun. I'm now full-time j*b in Seattle and I woke up at like 5 am on a Saturday and drove 3 hrs to a city called Ellensburg which is this small town in Washington. The college CWU Central Washington University is here and other than that its just sum small town super calm.
So I signed up for 3 events: 3x3, 3x3 OH, and skewb. We started off with skewb in the 1st round in which I did HORRIBLE like I'm washed at skewb and I did do some training prior to get myself in shape but I'm still shaking off the rust and I was barely warmed up. But it's first round so nothign rly matters, final round is when it matters. This is my first time competing in Skewb in like 3 years which is fun and I did get worse but i dont think that much worse like I still remember all of my algs its just my recognition is buns.
Then next up is 3x3 and I did really bad, 13 sec average is really bad my hawns were just cold.
Then after this I chilled and met some new people from the PNW community since this is my first cubing comp outside California. A lot of new faces and everyones super nice and made some new friends racing them and doing factory solves. Then I had this bruger place for lunch and I thought since it's such a small city that lunch would be super cheat but bro i paid like 15 for a burger and fries like huh.
Then after lunch I did 3x3 OH first round in which I started practicing like 10 minutes prior and i got PR single and average. DIdn't do any OH prep before and I do like 3-look OLL sometimes and 2-look PLL lmaooo. Bro I got a T-perm in one of the solves and i had to 2-look it because i legit only have T perm on muscle memory.
Then I did 3x3 2nd round and this time I was warmed up and my hawns werent cold AND I START OFF WITH A SUB 10 SINGLE LIKE WTF. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3ouUjeQ-e4
This sub-10 single is a SUPER huge barrier for me and basically my biggest goal at the point and I was absolutely not prepared like it did not feel like a sub-10 at all as you can see in the vid. It was a fullstep with an R perm and it was just good, fluid lookahead which ive learned is basically 80% of what makes a good solve at my level. And then i followed up that 9 second solve with a 13, a 12, an 11, and a 10 to make a beautiful 11.5 average. Super clutch on the last solve to secure the sub-12 average which is another PR.
Then after that theres like 3 hours or something between skewb finals i just did some more socializing and judging and warming up for skewb. I was sitting next to Ash Black for skewb finals and ended up talking with him a lot and hes a pretty interesting person. His main event now is 6x6 cuz he hurt his wrist or something doing skewb fingertricks with his thumb which sucks and hes a fulltime worker at chipotle and he said its super tiring and stuff. I also tried out his skewb and ITS LITERALLY SO FAST like its literally the same gan skewb as mine just lubed differently like its so tuff its way faster than mine and so reliable and so satisfying to turn on.
Anyway I ended up with a 3.94 average which is rly mid but good enough to get me 3rd place which I'm happy with. I was aiming for 2nd place after Ash Black but you can't really complain cuz it coudl've been worse and I could've choked to miss out on podium.
So that's how this competition went it was really fun. On the way back to Seattle I legit was getting so sleepy I had to exit the highway and pull over and take a 20 min powernap and i felt way better. I still remember I was listening to the new olivia rodrigo album on the way back. I met a lot of rly cool ppl like genuinely really cool ppl and also saw Sameer dominate hes basically world #1 for squan and hes a pnw cuber. Yeah this is my first comp outside of the norcal community so yeah basically all new faces but honestly still felt super comfortable.
So this is waht my WCA profile looks like now, i thought to save a snapshot here. This post was quite low effort and not easy to follow but its whatever man i haev no time these days for blogging, hopefully i can get out Q2 2026 for next month.
