history can kinda be interesting

Here is a pretty scuffed post since its been like 7+ days since a post.

So like i hate history. i have a passion of not taking ap [history] classes whether its AP world or APUSH. History is boring, you forget everything you learn, it's boring, and DBQs are on the highest tier of things that i hate.

so i was in my regular USH class like last week and there was a sub. We were supposed to watch a documentary about the atomic bomb and we did.

idk what but documentaries always hit different. that documentary i watched is prob like 99% exaggerated, well not exaggerated, but like just, the documentary makes everything so significant. they really evoke the "pathos" and emotional side through all those stories and stuff. thats just how documentaries work and tahts the common trend of how i respond to them.

so yea, after i watched the atomic bomb on hiroshima documentary, i was like "dang bruh i always cheered on the US for sending this bruh." i was genuinely kind of shocked about like the atomic bomb and when they brought out the victims to go through their experiences it made me think that launching an atomic bomb should be avoided at ALL COSTS.

so yea. but then the sub came to the front of the room after the documentary and was like

"raise your hand if you think the US shoudlve launched the bomb"

and like one kid raised their hand and im ngl thats some real bravery LOL. normally in these situations if im the only one raising my hand then ill play it cool and pretend im scratching my head or something

ok but anyway, he then said "raise your hand if u think the US should not have launched the bomb" and then like the whole class raised their hand. I passionately did so. i was 100% convinced from the documentary that they should not have launched the bomb. thats how hard it hit me.

but then the substitute explained the numbers.

If US didn't launch the bomb, then the war would've continued and an incomparable number of people would've died. The atomic bomb gave the Japanese an excuse to surrender with pride, like, the japanese was going to keep fighting until their entire army was dead. they really held the idea that they will fight relentlessly and basically i cant think of the word to describe them. They just see surrendering as weak and shameful. Anyway, the atomic bomb quite literally saved millions of lives. if the bomb wasnt used, "there would be many more months of destruction and death on an enormous scale."

so like, the atomic bomb was incredible. and idk why but after the sub explained that i was kind of mindblown. that really hit so deep. lol its hard to explain but i was absolutely shook after he said that.

that instance made me enjoy history. i was finna pull up the counseling office at that moment and request to switch to apush lol. events like this are absolutely fascinating.

so at the end of the day, the moral of the story is:

war sucks. Now shoudl war be avoided at all cost? these are the type of thoughts i am having these days, all spurred from that substitute teacher.

In my opinion, i dont think so. i dont want to get into it tho lol. but war should be avoied like 99% of the time

(another raw, unedited brain dump. not proofreaded so there could be some cringe stuff)
