Porter Robinson's "Nurture" ||| The best Album of 2021

Porter Robinson's 2021 album "Nurture" is a composed, emotional masterpiece, with a whirlwind of vocal samples and melodic phrasing. I've never made a formal review of my favorite songs of this album as it clearly deserves one. Listen along with me as I review my Top 5 favorite tracks from this album. All 5 of them are SO GOOD.

5. Get Your Wish

Inseparable Porter Robinson intro, with Porter Robinson vocals and lyrics. The real unique part of this track that makes it so outstanding is the chorus, a slow, ballad-like, section. The Porter Robinson sound design paired with this wedding-entrance chorus is a combination that brings this song to life, and it's amazing. The other segments of this song fit the theme, I especially loved the lyrics in the second prechorus. What a perfect lead-in.

4. Look at the Sky

This fun melody that's introduced in the beginning is scattered throughout the rest of the song, and especially dominating the second half of each chorus. As Robinson continues to employ his vocal sound design on the female/male interlude of the prechorus, it leads in seaminglessly into an emotional chorus, not only melodically but lyrically. There's just something special about this upbeat track, and Robinson goes absolutely all-in on the second verse. Everything just hits you with the breakdown and fills. I love seeing slow breakdowns in second verses, as GhostDragon does it a lot.

This track can mean something different for everyone, but we all share this connection of hope when we listen to this track. There's a hopeful mood to the chorus of this track, which is reloaded in the verses' slow sections. Whether it's imposter syndrome, feeling left out, general failure, or just genuine sadness, this track is always here for you.

3. Musician

This track gives us an upbeat, chilly vibe track with amazing vocal chops and phrases. This is a track that gets better upon every additional listen, especially the weird vocal chops in the song.

I interpret this chorus as a result of the culmination of every other track in this song. As you walk peacefully in this field, you flop down belly first, letting go of everything in you. Your worries, stresses, and your past. As you listen deeply to the other tracks in this album, you get up, and proceed with your life, as if none of this just happened.

Musician is like the epilogue. Musician and its catchy chorus is what happens after the deep breaths, what happens after the moments of silence, the prayers. Musician is what happens after these difficult moments where you let everything away from yourself.

Let the production speak to yourself, I won't guide you on what this means, as you know yourself the best.

2. Something Comforting

Something Comforting provides us with a "Shelter" type EDM track with the familiar satisfying chords and fills. Finally, choruses can be referred to as drops in this album. Robinson maintains the theme of Nurture through the second verse, and of course, expands with a slow-section in the second verse, accompanied by a riveting piano.

I love this track just because of how well this fits in with the album yet having such a vibrant atmosphere with the call and response. The piano fits so well with this track, and it makes such a grand showcase in this track's disappearance.

1. Mother

Sometimes what makes a song so great only appears minimally in the song. When I listened to this song for the first time, the vocals in the chorus instantly hooked me. This song speaks to me in so many different ways, whether it's the vibrating vocal chops in the second chorus or the unconventional "verse-ified" bridge. They take the vocals and lyrics in a verse atmosphere, similar to some techniques Teminite likes to do. I'm sure the main lyrics in this song mean so much to you too, as this kind of forces these childhood flashbacks on you. It's amazing.

Lyric(s) of the Post:

"

I'm on your side for the rest of yoru life

You'll never be alone, don't you worry, my child

And now there's an empty room you outgrew

But I'm here for you", ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh

"
